Potomac River Sunrise Oil painting by Richard Whiteley This picture was painted on in studio from a small sketch done on site[also on this page]. I was driving down the George Washington Parkway south of Alexandria VA, just as the sun was rising. There is a place a few miles south where there the river bank is very close to the road, and there is a place to park. I have painted there many times as it is such a nice view of the River. In this case it was the sunrise which interested me , and I quickly painted it about 5x7 inches. Later I did the bigger 18x24 studio painting.
